Private Branch eXchange (PBX)

PBX or PABX phone systems are great for small business telephone systems. This type of network allos for routing calls between employees to outside lines. Traditionally PBX was more suited for medium to larger sized business but these systems have now become more prominent among small to medium sized business with a growing number of employees. Whilst it is more expensive than a voip business phone system it is perfect for businesses that require advanced features like auto-mated call attendant or call centre. PBX systems can give your small business the professional features it needs to streamline communications.

Private Automatic Branch Exchange (PABX)

PABX was developed out of an earlier manual technology; Private Manual Branch Exchange (PMBX), the shift from PMBX to PABX was from manual to switchboard operation to automated electronic switching phone systems.

PABX phone systems connect all the communications equipment such as telephones, fax machines and modems to an internal network which reduces the cost in having multiple lines routing to external networks before return internally. The network is usually set up on site and connects all calls within that site as well as having the capability to connect calls to a remote site connected to that network. This connection is referred to as a trunk line.

External hosting of PABX systems is also common. This is where the network system is hosted externally, for example with a phone company. The host will route the calls through the public phone system to any communication device on the company network.
